Tech Coatings provides game changing liquid fire protection solutions to the Australasian market.

With an ever extending range, Tech Coatings’ currently supplies tested & endorsed fire rated systems for the upgrade of fire-separating elements, the encapsulation of mass timber as well as for passive fire stopping. As a member of the NZGBC Tech Coatings is determined to design all of its passive fire systems in the most sustainable way possible, reducing its carbon footprint and creating healthier spaces.

Tech Coatings’ main aspiration is to restore the trust in safe building practices and the company has made a commitment to be at the forefront of a positive change within the industry. Tech Coatings’ approach is rooted in system thinking, with an emphasis on working in collaboration and taking on different perspectives to uncover new opportunities for finding solutions.

A big step towards this aspiration has now seen Tech Coatings opening a multipurpose hub in New Plymouth, which provides a space for up-skilling and training interested members of the industry.

THE BACK STORY

Tech Coatings is the joint effort of three lifelong friends – Shane, Jason, and Dane.

Convinced that technical coatings are remarkable products, able to solve challenges in a far more elegant and economical way than their longstanding alternatives, the aspiration to sell the best technical coatings to the Australasian market was born.

The industry however showed a somewhat different picture than expected - technical coatings, and ‘passive fire’ protective paints in particular, seemed to be highly underrated and weren’t utilised to the extent that their functionality and versatility would suggest.

Shane set out to find an explanation by engaging with the respective leaders in their fields. Asking pertinent questions regarding fire design, the use of building materials, and the cooperation between trades on construction sites, it became clear that more often than not, there wasn't a clear reason why solutions were put in place.

This changed the course of Tech Coatings’ journey and instead of offering yet another product to the protective coatings market Tech Coatings created its own category and decided that what was needed was a company that would go far beyond the role of a traditional supplier.

Tech Coatings’ novel approach and fresh perspective eventually instigated an ongoing industry wide discussion around quality assurance, the need for standards and the untapped potential of fireproof paints.
